          <title>Prizes for players at music festival</title>

          <description><p>
              Players from Newhall Band have won prizes at the recent City of Coventry and Warwickshire Festival.
              
              Patricia Woodings, Shiela Dixon, Jo Priestley and Sharron Bradford won first prize in the Quartet class by playing Reginald Heath's Petite Suite for Brass Quartet at recent Festival held at the Bablake School in Coventry.
              
              Patricia also won the Open Slow Melody Class retaining the title she won the previous year playing Demelza by Hugh Nash and Shiela won the Open Air Varie Class playing Norma by Arban, Patricia also had success in this Class coming third.
              
              It was a very successful day for Patricia as she also came second in the Open Duet Class playing Will O' the Wisp with husband Peter.
              
              Newhall Band are currently recruiting and would especially like to hear from you if you play baritone.

              Players from Newhall Band have won prizes at the Coalville Music Festival.
          
              Patricia Woodings, Shiela Dixon, Jo Priestley and guest Sam Lear won first prize in the open brass ensemble class by playing Peter Graham's quartet 'Timepiece' at the 28th Coalville Festival of Music held at Newbridge High Shool on Saturday 14 May. 
          
              Shiela and Jo also won first prize in the open brass duet class with E Swift's cornet and euphonium duet arranged from Rossini's 'William Tell'.

      <title>Good place for Newhall Band at regional contest</title>

      <description><p>
Newhall Band has won fourth place at the Midlands Area Brass Band Chamionship, just missing an invitation to the national finals by one place.
</p><p>
Twenty bands took part in the fourth section at the annual contest, which was hosted at Nicholas Chamberlaine Technology College on Sunday 13 March. The test Piece was Prelude, Song and Dance by John Golland.
</p><p>
Adjudicators Alan Hope &amp; Steve Pritchard-Jones felt that the band had \"captured the spirit of the music\" and had played \"a good performance with lots of fine detail heard\"
</p><p>
If you are a brass player, particularly euphonium or baritone, then the band would love to hear from you.

      <title>Prizes for Newhall Band at Derby contest</title>

Newhall Band has won prizes at the North East Midlands Brass Band Association contest, hosted by Rolls Royce, Derby on Sunday 20 February.
</p><p>
The band won cash and a trophy for a creditable third place in their section. The test piece was Prelude, Song and Dance by John Golland, which they will also be playing at the regional heats for the national championships on 13 March.
</p><p>
The band's bass players caught the judges ear with their playing and won the trophy for best bass section.

Players from Newhall Band have won prizes at the first City of Coventry and Warwickshire Brass Festival, held at Bablake School, Coventry, on Saturday 3 July.
</p><p>
Patricia Woodings, the band's solo horn player, won first prize in the Open Slow Melody class by playing Demelza by Hugh Nash, and third prize in the Open Air Varie section with Variations on a Welsh Theme by Peter Kneale.
</p><p>
Shiela Dixon, who plays solo cornet with Newhall, won third prize with the slow melody My Love is Like a Red Red Rose arraged by Gordon Langford, and second place in the Air Varie section with Fantaisie Brilliante by J B Arban.

      <title>Battle of the Bands</title>

Newhall band won third prize overall and second prize for entertainment at the recent entertainment contest hosted by Ireland Colliery at Staveley, near Chesterfield on Sunday 27 June.
</p><p>
The bands and audience found it a most enjoyable day.
</p><p>
Newhall's 25-minute programme included a trombone solo from the band's principal trombone player, Claire Smith, a vocal solo from fellow trombone player Abbie Priestley, some well-known tunes such as Chatanooga Choo Cho and some acting up during Mozart's 'Musical Joke'.
</p><p>
